Guava pastelitos are among Cubans' favorite desserts. They serve just as well as a snack, breakfast, or after-dinner treat to accompany a cup of coffee, a milkshake, or whatever you like.
Making them from scratch has its complications, because puff pastry requires skill, but nowadays you can find this dough ready-made in many supermarkets (outside Cuba, of course). This recipe uses very few ingredients and turns out delicious.

Method
- Look for pre-made puff pastry at the market, from your preferred brand. It comes ready to bake.

CiberCuba - Generally, the dough comes divided into two parts, each on parchment paper, so you can place it directly on the baking sheet.

CiberCuba - Lay out the first half, with its parchment paper, on the baking sheet. Place uniform pieces of guava paste on top in an orderly fashion, all at the same distance from each other, so they end up in the center of each pastelito. Add more or less guava according to your taste.

CiberCuba - Preheat the oven to 200 ºC.
- Carefully lay the second sheet of dough over the first, covering the guava, and mark the shape of the pastelitos.

CiberCuba - With a pizza cutter or a knife, cut the dough moving it as little as possible. This way, when they come out of the oven, it will be easy to separate them.
- With a pastry brush, brush the pastelitos with the butter.

CiberCuba - Bake at 200 ºC until golden and crispy. The time depends on each oven; try to ensure the baking sheet receives even heat from above and below so they do not brown more on one side than the other.

CiberCuba - Take the pastelitos out of the oven and let them rest a little, because the guava inside remains very hot. Separate them and enjoy!
